Brewers match franchise record
The Milwaukee Brewers matched their franchise record for wins in a single season after edging out Baltimore 1-0 on Saturday. The victory brought Milwaukee to a 97-58 record, matching the 97 wins set by last year's squad that finished 97-65.
Milwaukee has already secured their fourth straight National League Central title. They have also booked their eighth playoff spot across the past nine seasons, holding the best record in the major leagues.
Sun misplay decides the game
The only run of the game came during the second inning. Baltimore right fielder Rece Hinds lost a fly ball hit by Joey Ortiz in the sun and fell to the ground. That play allowed Gary Sánchez to drive in the lone run of the afternoon on a groundout.
Baltimore starter Trevor Rogers pitched a strong game despite taking the loss. Rogers struck out 10 batters, walked one, and gave up just three hits across a season high eight innings on the mound.
Pitching seals shutout win
Milwaukee pitcher Robert Gasser improved to 5-5 on the year after allowing only three hits across seven scoreless innings. Abner Uribe handled a leadoff single in the eighth, and Aaron Ashby completed a perfect ninth inning to claim his third save. The result gave Milwaukee their 11th shutout of the year and their first 1-0 victory.
The defeat leaves Baltimore with a 75-80 record. The Orioles now sit four games behind the Chicago White Sox for the final American League wild card place with seven games left on the schedule.
