Footwear Controversy Settled
The conversation around Caleb Williams and his in-game footwear quieted down when he stepped out in an all-black pair of Caddix cleats. The Chicago team secured a 34-17 win over Seattle on Monday Night Football, and the quarterback kept the focus entirely on the pitch.
Earlier issues arose when the NFL handed Williams a total of $35,823 in fines. The league penalized him for wearing cleats with an unauthorized logo during weeks 6 and 7. Only Nike, Adidas and Under Armour hold official partnerships with the NFL.
Covering Up The Logo
Jack Rasmussen, the CEO of Caddix, stated that the company will pay the fines for the quarterback. Williams mentioned that he wore the brand since the preseason without facing penalties because an all-white version hid the logo better.
Ahead of the game at Lumen Field, Williams wore matte black cleats that completely concealed the Caddix logo. He explained that the choice aimed to eliminate any potential distractions for the squad.
Focusing On The Team
Williams spoke about wanting to calm things down following the recent media attention. He noted that it was a big week and he wanted to keep unnecessary drama away from the team as much as possible.
Coach Ben Johnson previously expressed confidence in his player before the matchup. Johnson noted that Williams cares deeply about the group and would never do anything to hurt their chances on the field.
