Why Are the Los Angeles Rams Struggling So Badly?

The Los Angeles Rams are 2-4 and facing massive pressure after a terrible start to the NFL season.

From Super Bowl Favourites to Last Place

The Los Angeles Rams entered this season with enormous expectations. After bringing Aaron Donald out of retirement and adding Myles Garrett and Trent McDuffie during the offseason, many expected them to dominate. Instead, they sit at 2-4 and find themselves at the bottom of the NFC West. Their early losses to strong teams like the San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos, and Buffalo Bills felt disappointing rather than alarming at first.

However, the alarms are ringing now. On Sunday, the Rams lost 18-16 at home to a 1-4 Arizona Cardinals team. That defeat brought deep frustration, especially since injuries and bad turnover luck did not decide the outcome. Even losing new kicker Blake Grupe to an early-game knee injury did not cause the special teams meltdown that doomed them.

Matthew Stafford and the Offence

Quarterback Matthew Stafford has not played at the high level he showed during the 2025 campaign. He ranked fourth in Total QBR a year ago, but he has slipped to 14th in the league through six games. His interception numbers are also up significantly. He threw just eight picks over 17 games last season, but he already has six interceptions in six games this time around.

Stafford is also struggling with accuracy on deep passes. He averaged 15.5 yards per attempt on deep throws last season, ranking fifth in the league. That number has dropped to just 9.7 yards per attempt this year. During Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Stafford missed a wide-open Puka Nacua on a deep route in the third quarter because pressure forced an incompletion.
