Early trouble for Chicago
The Guardians started fast after getting shut out on Saturday. They scored two runs in the first inning to put the White Sox behind for the first time in four postseason games. Steven Kwan led off with a base hit, and Jose Ramirez walked before Chase DeLauter moved them into scoring position. Nathaniel Lowe hit a chopper that drove in Kwan, and an error on the throw allowed Ramirez to score.
Despite this early setback, the Chicago pitching staff settled down. Sean Burke came on in the third inning and performed brilliantly. He allowed just one hit in five and a third innings of relief, striking out six batters and retiring thirteen straight before Chase DeLauter ended his night with a base hit.
Sixth inning comeback
The Chicago offense came alive in the sixth inning to turn the game around. Kyle Teel started the fourth with the team's first hit, and Munetaka Murakami drove him home to make it 2-1. Then came the decisive sixth inning.
Miguel Vargas led off with a base hit, chasing Cleveland starter Gavin Williams from the game. After a walk and a wild pitch moved the runners, Braden Montgomery hit a two-run double down the right-field line to put the White Sox ahead. Chase Meidroth followed with a single to bring home Montgomery and extend the lead.
