A Club Legend Passes Away
Former West Ham goalkeeper Ludek Miklosko has died at the age of 64. The Czech goalkeeper passed away after a battle with cancer. He had announced his decision to stop cancer treatment in December 2024, three years after his diagnosis.
Miklosko was a massive favourite among the fans. He joined West Ham from Banik Ostrava and made nearly 400 appearances for the club between 1990 and 1998. He helped the Hammers win promotion to the top flight in both 1991 and 1993. Even long after he left the pitch, supporters continued to sing his name. He later returned to the club as a goalkeeping coach.
Tributes and Honours
The club released a statement expressing deep sadness at the loss of their former goalkeeper and coach. They described Miklosko as a beloved, inspirational goalkeeper and a gentle giant of a man.
His son, Martin Miklosko, also shared a touching statement. He thanked the fans and the club for their support during his father's illness. He said that the messages from former teammates and fans gave his father strength to keep fighting.
Miklosko, who also represented Czechoslovakia at the 1990 World Cup and ended his playing career with QPR, will be honoured soon. West Ham will hold a period of appreciation at Tuesday's Carabao Cup tie against Fulham. Their Championship home game against QPR on October 9 will also be dedicated to his memory.
