Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has shared his thoughts on the situation. Rooney has a personal connection to the young player, as Gabriel has played in the same youth team as Rooney's son, Kai.
Rooney expressed his sadness over the situation, calling Gabriel a special talent. Rooney said that it would be disappointing for United to lose him. Rooney believes United had to do everything they could. "As a club, you need to do it to try to keep the better players," Rooney said. He admitted that it is hard to tell if the situation has gone too far or if there is still a chance for Gabriel to stay.
First-Team Potential
Rooney is convinced that Gabriel has what it takes to succeed at the highest level. He praised the teenager's balance, ability, and intelligence on the pitch. Rooney noted that Gabriel has already shown he can play against older players and still score goals.
The former England captain believes Gabriel was very close to making his senior debut. Rooney said he imagined the teenager would have played for the first team at some point this season. For now, United fans must wait to see if the club can convince their young star to change his mind.
