A rookie record night in Denver
Golden State Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg put up 31 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists in a 134-114 blowout road win over the Denver Nuggets on Monday night. It is a loud start to his NBA career, with 87 points marking the most from a Warriors rookie in his first four games since Wilt Chamberlain in 1959. Stephen Curry was the last Warriors rookie to put up at least 30 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists in a game back in 2010.
Lendeborg admitted he is surprising himself, especially after recording 13 free throws in this match. Injuries to Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody opened up minutes on the wing, allowing the 24 year old rookie to shine early in the season.
Curry and supporting cast seal the win
The Warriors entered the game as seven point underdogs after an 0-3 start. Stephen Curry finished the night with 24 points on 8-of-8 shooting, marking only the second perfect shooting night of his career. Brandin Podziemski added 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
In the fourth quarter, both Curry and Green rested on the bench while Lendeborg and Podziemski closed out the game. Warriors coach Steve Kerr praised the young rookie, noting that they put the ball in his hands during critical moments because of his advanced skill and strength.
