The Court Verdict
A Miami jury reached a mixed verdict in the civil trial involving Tyreek Hill and his estranged wife, Lakeeta Vaccaro. The six-person jury deliberated for nearly four hours before finding the former NFL wide receiver liable for two counts of battery.
While the jury held Hill accountable for those two specific claims, they found him not liable for the eight remaining counts. These included other allegations of battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and continuing domestic violence. Vaccaro had asked for eight million dollars in compensatory damages, but the jury ultimately awarded her five hundred thousand dollars and denied her claims for punitive damages.
Details of the Incidents
The trial centered on a weeklong presentation of evidence regarding multiple allegations of verbal and physical abuse. Vaccaro testified that the abuse began on January 11, 2024, during an argument over a postnuptial agreement. She told the court that Hill grabbed a necklace, placed his hands around her neck, and twisted her breasts. Text messages sent to her mother the following day were used as evidence to support her claims.
Another key moment involved nanny camera footage from April 2025. The video captured Hill and Vaccaro yelling at each other, with Vaccaro telling Hill to stop. The footage also showed Hill taking his daughter from her crib as she woke up. The jury determined that Hill was liable for battery in connection with both the January 2024 incident and the April 2025 event shown on the camera.
Legal Arguments and Reactions
During closing arguments, Vaccaro lawyer Paul Schwiep told the jury that her account was consistent and backed by evidence. He stated that a financial award was the only way the civil justice system could work to restore her dignity.
Defense attorneys argued that the lawsuit was motivated by money and divorce proceedings. Michael Gottlieb told jurors that the allegations came up only after Vaccaro lost a claim for extra spousal support. Hill told the court he was deeply ashamed for threatening his wife during one argument, though he denied physically abusing her. Christi Bright, one of Hill's lawyers, told reporters that Hill was very pleased and grateful to finally share his side of the story.
