Tuchel Dismisses Distraction Claims

England manager Thomas Tuchel insisted that the ongoing legal issues surrounding Manchester City did not cause a distraction for his squad in their 3-2 defeat to Spain on Saturday.

News broke just a day before the Nations League match at Wembley that City are expected to be found guilty of the majority of their 115 Premier League financial charges. City trio Marc Guehi, Nico O'Reilly and Elliot Anderson all started the match despite the timing of the news.

Tuchel said the situation was not a topic of discussion for him. He stated that he was only focused on training, meetings and preparation. While he admitted that the players likely talked about it, he did not feel they were distracted during the match.

Kane Confirms Squad Talks

England captain Harry Kane confirmed that the players did talk about the Manchester City situation. However, he made it clear that the squad always puts club matters aside when they represent the national team.

Kane explained that there was a discussion, but said it was no different this week as they focused on the game. Despite this, England suffered from individual errors during the match. Guehi made an early mistake that allowed Lamine Yamal to score for Spain after just two minutes.

Missed Penalty and Spain Comeback

England managed to fight back after the early setback. Anthony Gordon scored the equaliser before Kane put the hosts 2-1 up with a deflected header before half time.

The turning point came in the 54th minute when Kane missed a penalty that could have put England 3-1 ahead. Tuchel noted that scoring the penalty would have been the decisive punch to get full momentum.

Instead, Spain fought back. Substitutes Alex Baena and Mikel Oyarzabal scored to secure a 3-2 win for the visitors. Oyarzabal scored the winning goal in the 74th minute. Tuchel lamented the technical errors that cost his team but urged his players to learn from the defeat.
