Kelce reaches another career milestone
Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce has reached another major milestone in his football career. During Monday night's game against the Denver Broncos, the veteran pass catcher moved into second place on the all time receiving yards list for tight ends.
Before the game kicked off at Arrowhead Stadium, Kelce needed 44 yards to surpass Jason Witten. Witten finished his career with 13,046 yards. With his performance on Monday, Kelce overtook Witten to claim the second spot in NFL history.
A highlight play seals the record
The 36 year old reached the record mark in style during the second half of the contest. Late in the third quarter, the Denver Broncos sent a blitz against the Kansas City offense. Kelce caught a short pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes, broke a tackle, and sprinted upfield for a massive 59 yard reception.
That play was the longest completion of the game for Mahomes to that point. It also produced big celebrations off the field. Up in an Arrowhead Stadium suite, Kelce's wife, Taylor Swift, and his brother, Jason, were seen celebrating the highlight play together.
Chasing the all time record
Now in his 13th year in the league, Kelce continues to add to his career numbers with Kansas City. Only one tight end in NFL history remains ahead of him on the all time receiving list.
That top spot belongs to Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez. Gonzalez leads all tight ends in history with 15,127 receiving yards. Kelce will now continue his pursuit of that record as the season moves along.
