Adding Another Playmaker

The Houston Texans have traded a second-rounder and a sixth-rounder to the Arizona Cardinals for Marvin Harrison Jr. Coach DeMeco Ryans stated that the move was simply about improving the team, which currently sits at a 1-4 record. Ryans mentioned that they always look at the roster to see how they can improve.

Adding Harrison is the latest move in a long line of roster changes. Since DeMeco Ryans and quarterback C.J. Stroud arrived in 2023, the team has been very active in trying to find the right weapons to complement top wideout Nico Collins.

A History of Receiver Moves

The front office has tried several different paths to solve their needs at wide receiver. In 2024, they acquired Stefon Diggs from the Buffalo Bills for a second-round pick. Diggs was on pace for a strong season before suffering a torn ACL in Week 8. He was not re-signed for the following year.

They also tried Christian Kirk during the 2025 offseason, but he recorded a career-low 239 receiving yards in his lone season in Houston. Later in August, the team traded for Kayshon Boutte after losing Jayden Higgins to a torn ACL during practice.

Reuniting With Stroud

The trade brings Harrison back together with C.J. Stroud, his former teammate at Ohio State. Stroud was a driving force behind the move, praising Harrison as a hard worker and a great presence off the field. The team hopes this past connection will help rejuvenate Harrison, who has recorded 1,578 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns in 33 NFL games.

Nico Collins has been the only constant, going over 1,000 receiving yards in each year of Ryans' tenure. Tank Dell's 709 yards in 2023 still stands as the next-best season for a Houston pass catcher during this stretch. Now, the team hopes Harrison can finally fill that role.
