The Lawsuit Filed in Mississippi

Three friends of Nolan Wells are taking legal action against Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Owens. The lawsuit was filed in federal court on Monday by the fathers of the three friends. Under Mississippi law, the three are considered minors because they are under 21 years old.

Lawyers representing the friends stated they plan to file several more defamation claims this week. They also indicated intent to sue other public figures and media personalities for comments made about the case.

Social Media Posts Spark Legal Battle

The lawsuit centers on a post that Owens published on the platform X. Owens wrote that authorities should arrest the friends immediately. His post linked to an Instagram video claiming the friends killed Wells and tampered with his phone.

Edward Paltzik, an attorney representing the three friends, spoke about the impact of the online statements. Not only is he defaming them, he is basically saying to the mob, get your pitchforks, get your torches, said Edward Paltzik.

Background on the Investigation

Nolan Wells went missing on a Mississippi island during a Fourth of July celebration. His body was found two days later off the coast. A Mississippi grand jury later declined to recommend any charges, finding the death consistent with drowning, though autopsies did not determine an exact cause.

Online speculation grew after photos circulated showing Wells with his friends. Two of the plaintiffs appeared in those photos, while the third called the Coast Guard and Wells to report him missing.
