Trade Rumors and Reality

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor is clearing the air regarding his future with the franchise. Amid a major roster overhaul, Taylor confirmed he has not asked for a trade. Even so, he acknowledged that any changes remain possible in professional football.

Taylor stated that he has not heard anything and cannot control the situation. He added that he remains proud to wear the horseshoe and proud to be here.

Big Departures in Indianapolis

The comments follow a wild pair of deals on Tuesday. The franchise traded star guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks and sent defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to the San Francisco 49ers.

Taylor noted that everything was speculation until deals actually happened. He described Nelson and Buckner as the gold standard of the NFL and expressed regret that he could not do more to win alongside them.

Focus on the Field

The Colts started this season with a 2-5 record following a poor finish last season, leading to expectations of a team reboot. When a reporter asked about a rebuild, Taylor questioned the premise as a fierce competitor who goes out to win every game.

Despite his stance, several teams have made overtures to the Colts regarding Taylor. He signed a contract extension in August that runs through 2028, making him the top remaining asset on the roster.

Understanding the Business

Taylor spoke with principal owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon this week, though he kept the details private. Having requested a trade during a contract standoff in 2023, he understands the harsh business side of the sport.

Taylor concluded that players must accept that the day for change may arrive, whether they like it or not. For now, his focus rests on the upcoming Sunday game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
