Responding To The Critics
Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has responded to recent criticism of his performances. The midfielder scored a brilliant goal in Liverpool's 3-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night. This came after some lacklustre displays in the midfield.
Szoboszlai admitted he did not even know people were criticising him. "Was there a criticism? I don't know, I didn't see but thanks for telling me," he said. He explained that players are human and can have bad days. He dedicated his goal against Tottenham to the people who always stand by him.
He had a tough game in the 0-0 draw against Fulham last weekend, winning only one of his 10 duels. This led to questions about his place in the team. However, the player believes the most important thing is how you react to a bad game. He feels he reacted well against Tottenham and hopes to carry that form into Sunday.
Finding His Best Position
Manager Andoni Iraola has been using a new midfield setup. Szoboszlai explained that the team plays with one six, one eight, and one ten. The six and eight do not play next to each other, as the eight is higher up and the ten is even higher.
The Hungarian has played in several roles already, including as a number six, number eight, number ten, and number seven. He was a number eight against Fulham. When asked if he has a preferred position on the pitch, Szoboszlai said he does not mind where he plays.
"No, I just want to be on the pitch," he said. He argued that winning only one duel in one game does not mean he cannot play as a number six. He believes there will always be games where players are not at their best, but they must leave the past behind and focus on the next match.
