Suns Sign Free Agent Duop Reath After Mark Williams Injury

The Phoenix Suns are making moves to strengthen their squad. The team is signing center Duop Reath to a new deal. This move comes as the team looks to add depth to their frontcourt after some bad news on the injury front.

The Suns needed a new big man because center Mark Williams is sidelined. Williams will be out of action for several months due to a shoulder injury. Reath comes in to help fill that gap and give the team more options.

A Look at Reath's Career

Reath is a 30 year old big man who has spent all three of his NBA seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers. Portland first signed him as an undrafted free agent back in 2023.

After a great start, the Blazers converted his contract to a standard NBA deal midway through his rookie season. During that breakout rookie campaign, Reath averaged 9.1 points and 3.7 rebounds per game.

However, his playing time started to decrease after that. His minutes on the court declined over the following two seasons. In February, Portland traded him to the Atlanta Hawks, and he was subsequently waived. This made him a free agent, allowing the Suns to secure his services.

Phoenix Frontcourt Options

Reath will join a Phoenix frontcourt that already has some young talent. The Suns also have Khaman Maluach in their squad.

The Suns selected Maluach with the number 10 pick in last year's NBA draft. With Williams out for a long period, Reath and Maluach will both have to step up. They will look to get valuable minutes on the court and help the team.
