Board maintains faith despite poor league form

Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris retains the full support of the club board and remains central to their plans. The 50 year old Frenchman has come under increasing pressure after a difficult start to the Premier League season.

Sunderland currently sit bottom of the table after securing just one win from nine matches. A 3-1 defeat at Coventry on Saturday extended their winless league run to seven games. The team has also struggled on the road, picking up just one point from five away fixtures.

Board preaches patience after past success

The club hierarchy recognises the frustration among fans and shares the disappointment with recent performances. However, they believe Le Bris can turn their fortunes around.

The former Lorient head coach saw his standing rise during the summer. After leading Sunderland to promotion through the play offs, he guided them to an impressive seventh placed finish in their first season back in the top flight following an eight year absence. That run brought European football to the club for the first time in 53 years.

European form contrasts with domestic struggles

While results in the Premier League have been disappointing, Sunderland have made an unbeaten start to their Europa League campaign. They picked up wins against AZ Alkmaar and Torreense, followed by a draw in Poland against Lech Poznan.

The extra matches appear to have taken a toll on squad performances in the league. However, the hierarchy feels their ambitions are best served by maintaining stability and taking collective responsibility.

Upcoming fixtures at the Stadium of Light

Sunderland will be back in action on Thursday when they face Europa League opponents Dinamo Zagreb at home.

They will then return to Premier League action on Sunday as they host Chelsea at the Stadium of Light.
