The end of a historic run

Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander saw his long scoring streak come to an end on Thursday night. He finished with 17 points in a 96-84 home win over the Denver Nuggets.

It was his first game under 20 points in nearly two years. The result snapped his NBA record streak of 20-point games at 141 regular season contests.

A tough shooting night

Gilgeous-Alexander struggled early against Denver, missing all seven shots he took in the first half. He relied on a pair of free throws to avoid going scoreless in a half for the first time since his rookie year in 2019.

He finally scored his first field goal in the third quarter. Jalen Williams added 21 points, and Chet Holmgren grabbed 17 rebounds to help secure the victory.

Putting the team first

With under two minutes left, Gilgeous-Alexander needed three more points to keep the streak alive. Instead, he asked coach Mark Daigneault to substitute him out when the Nuggets made their own substitutions.

Daigneault praised the star player for showing great class and perspective. Aaron Gordon scored 20 points for Denver, while Nikola Jokic and DeMar DeRozan each added 13.
