Gerrard Speaks Out On City
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard believes Manchester City have to be stripped of their titles after the club were found guilty of 100+ charges of financial misconduct by the Premier League. Gerrard added that an example must be set after their breaches. The charges against City relate to the years 2009 to 2018. Gerrard left Liverpool in 2015 and famously captained the side that finished runners-up to City in the league in the 2013 to 2014 season. City deny all wrongdoing and have appealed the verdict.
Asked what he felt City's punishment should be, Gerrard said they must be made to suffer, like they have done to other teams during the alleged time period. He stated that individual players should not give things back, but the club has to be stripped. He also mentioned that a transfer ban and a points deduction over a period of time should be applied to make them suffer like they have made everyone suffer over the nine or ten years that they did it. He noted that the Premier League was strong with Everton and Forest, so they have to be strong here too.
Looking Back And Moving Forward
While Gerrard has played down the prospect of receiving a retrospective Premier League medal, he said that those at City must face the consequences. He stated that it is not personal for him in terms of the Man City players, because they are all outstanding players who lived the moment and deserved the trophies. He added that he is not someone who is going to sit here and say he would accept a Premier League medal or want one that they got, because it would not feel the same.
Gerrard also spoke about the memories stolen from other clubs, mentioning fans of Spurs, United, Everton, teams at the bottom, and teams in the cups. He pointed out that everyone connected with City has got to think about the memories that they potentially have stolen from everyone else over that period of nine or ten years.
