Gerrard Praises Spurs Youngster
Former England captain Steven Gerrard has picked out Tottenham Hotspur teenager Luca Williams Barnett as a talent to watch. The 18 year old attack-minded midfielder made his Premier League debut as a late substitute during Spurs' 2-0 win against 10-man Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Gerrard shared his thoughts on The Overlap Daily after watching the youngster's brief appearance. He said he had heard the teenager's name mentioned through the England youth ranks before. Gerrard added that Spurs fans should be excited because the young player is going to be a real talent, comparing one of his runs to a Declan Rice cross.
Debut Moment and Manager Support
Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi praised the midfielder, calling him a great talent. During his time on the pitch, the teenager quickly moved down the wing and delivered a cross for Mohammed Kudus, although Kudus could not convert the chance.
Speaking in a video on the official club website, the young player called his debut a dream come true. He explained that he was not scared when he got on the ball, but simply wanted to enjoy the moment and bring energy to the crowd. He was first included in a senior matchday squad at age 16 under former boss Ange Postecoglou during the 2024-25 season. He previously played in the Carabao Cup last season and featured in a 5-1 victory over Charlton in August.
Looking Ahead to Leeds Match
Tottenham will look to maintain their recent form when they visit Leeds on Saturday. De Zerbi could have more options available for selection as squad members regain match fitness.
Defenders Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie both built up their minutes by appearing as substitutes against Crystal Palace. Porro came on at half time during that match, and both players could now be in line to feature in the upcoming fixture.
