Stephen Curry has agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Golden State Warriors. The deal is worth 116 million dollars and includes a player option for the 2028-29 season.

By taking this deal, the 38-year-old superstar accepted 20 million dollars less than his maximum possible salary. This decision gives the Warriors significant financial flexibility and cap space for next summer.

Curry became eligible for this extension on August 29. His current one-year contract is worth 62.6 million dollars. The front office offered him several choices, including a maximum payout, but Curry chose the discount to help the team.

Focus on the Court

The veteran guard spent nearly a month thinking about his options before making his final decision. He explained that he wanted to avoid any unnecessary distractions as the new season approaches.

Curry stated on Wednesday that he wanted no drama with the franchise entering the year. The Warriors are scheduled to start their pre-season practice next week in Hawaii. They will play their first regular season game on October 21 against the Lakers in Los Angeles.

Last season, Curry was limited to playing just 43 games because of persistent pain and swelling in his right knee. Despite the injury issues, he still performed at a high level. He averaged 26.6 points, 4.7 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game while shooting 46.8 percent from the floor.

Curry spent time in San Diego this week for a team event organized by teammate Jimmy Butler. He confirmed that his body is fully recovered and ready for the upcoming training camp.
