Daniel Jones will stay as the starting quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts when they face the Minnesota Vikings.

The decision stands

Daniel Jones will remain the Indianapolis Colts starting quarterback when they travel to play the Minnesota Vikings in Week 7. Coach Shane Steichen confirmed the plan on Monday. Jones has faced questions about his position following a tough run of form and a stunning loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

That loss added to a difficult week for the franchise, which also included the firing of general manager Chris Ballard. Despite the pressure, Steichen has continued to defend his player and insists no quarterback change is planned.

Struggles with turnovers

Jones has committed nine turnovers this season, which puts him second only to Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert. He also ranks near the bottom of the league among starting quarterbacks in several major passing categories. He sits 30th in QBR, and 29th in both completion rate and yards per attempt.

Steichen noted that Jones knows he must improve. He stressed that taking care of the football is the biggest priority, particularly in the red zone where mistakes are costly. Jones threw two interceptions in the red zone against Tennessee, allowing the Titans to wipe out a 13 point deficit and secure their first win of the season.

Looking for a turnaround

The quarterback has dealt with several challenges this year. He continues to work his way back from a torn Achilles sustained last December, while also managing an inconsistent offensive line and a struggling receiving corps.

Even so, his drop in form from last season has been stark. Jones achieved a career high completion percentage of 68% last year, but that number has fallen to a career low of 59.6% so far this season.
