Ramsey fights to play with broken wrist
Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Jalen Ramsey has revealed he broke his right wrist during last Sunday's win against the Cincinnati Bengals. Despite the fracture, Ramsey, who is 31, says he will try to play against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night.
Ramsey suffered the injury on the first series of the game. He still managed to play every defensive snap and finished with eight tackles. He wore a sling on Monday and what appeared to be a cast or brace on Tuesday.
"I got to be able to protect it, obviously," Ramsey said on Tuesday. He added that he wants to make sure he can protect the wrist and still play well enough so he does not let his teammates down. When asked if he will definitely play, he said, "We'll see."
More selection worries for Pittsburgh
Ramsey's injury adds to a complicated situation in the Steelers' secondary. Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. was a full participant in practice walkthroughs this week. This is his first full participation since being activated off the physically unable to perform list in late August. Porter has been dealing with a back injury and missed the first three weeks during contract negotiations that did not lead to an extension.
Slot cornerback Brandin Echols is also a doubt for Thursday after entering concussion protocol. If they need cover, the Steelers could turn to practice squad defensive back Doneiko Slaughter, who has been brought up for each of the first three games.
Rookie Daylen Everette could also see more action. He came in against the Bengals when Jamel Dean got injured and played nearly half the defensive snaps, making a key pass break up on third down. Dean later returned, but Everette ended up playing alongside him to replace Asante Samuel Jr.
