Pittman sidelined for Week 2

The Pittsburgh Steelers will have to cope without wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. for their Week 2 clash against the New England Patriots. Pittsburgh downgraded the wideout to out after he suffered a foot injury.

Pittman was listed as limited in practice on Wednesday and could not take part in practice sessions on Thursday or Friday. He had previously missed a significant part of training camp with an undisclosed injury sustained during practice at Latrobe Memorial Stadium on August 8.

Bernard ready for bigger role

Pittman joined Pittsburgh from the Indianapolis Colts in an offseason trade. He made an immediate mark in the season opener against the Atlanta Falcons, catching all three targets for 58 yards and opening up room for top receiver DK Metcalf.

With Pittman out, rookie Germie Bernard is set to receive more playing time. The second round pick from Alabama played only three snaps in Week 1, but quarterback Aaron Rodgers praised his progress.

"I think he's done a nice job," Rodgers said of Bernard on Sept 2. "He's got a great attitude. He really wants to learn. The best thing I can say about him is he hasn't made repeat mistakes. There's no mistakes going to happen. It's part of the game, especially for young guys. But when he does make a mistake, he takes it to heart and studies it and makes sure he doesn't repeat that thing."

Pittsburgh also heads into the game without cornerback Joey Porter Jr., who was ruled out after leaving Thursday practice with a back injury during his ramp up period.
