New Starting Five Confirmed

Coach Mitch Johnson announced on Friday that the San Antonio Spurs will start a three guard lineup in their season opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday. The team plans to start De'Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, and Dylan Harper alongside Devin Vassell and Victor Wembanyama.

San Antonio first used this starting combination in a preseason win over the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday. The trio played eleven minutes together in that game and finished at plus-10.

Preseason Performance and Past Numbers

During the game against Phoenix, the Spurs started slowly by shooting one of ten from the floor. They shot two of nine on three pointers when Fox, Castle, and Harper shared the floor. Vassell and Wembanyama also combined to miss all six of their three point attempts.

Despite a size disadvantage, the Spurs still won the rebounding battle 13 to 11 during those minutes. Fox, Castle, and Harper played just 69 minutes together all last season, including 25 in the NBA Finals, with opponents outscoring them by 47 points in those minutes.
