Hot Weather and Strong Pitching
The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Atlanta Braves 5-3 in Game 1 of their National League Division Series on Saturday. The game took place in extreme heat with a game-time temperature of 100 degrees, falling just short of the Dodger Stadium record.
Tarik Skubal started for the Dodgers and tossed six dominant innings. The two-time Cy Young Award winner allowed just one run and two hits, struck out seven batters, and walked two. It was his first career postseason start at home.
Long Balls Decide the Game
Atlanta starter Dylan Dodd pitched three scoreless innings, giving up singles to Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts. The Dodgers broke through against the Atlanta bullpen in the fourth inning when Victor Mederos walked Freddie Freeman and gave up a home run to Teoscar Hernandez.
Kyle Tucker and Max Muncy also homered in the sixth inning to extend the lead to 5-1. Sean Murphy hit a home run for Atlanta in the sixth, and Ozzie Albies hit a two-run homer in the ninth, but Evan Phillips closed out the game to earn the save.
