Preseason Finale Against Boston
The Philadelphia 76ers wrapped up their preseason schedule with a 125-120 overtime loss to the Boston Celtics on Friday night. Second year starting guard VJ Edgecombe was held out of the game for precautionary reasons. Coach Nick Nurse used the match to give fans a clear look at the team.
LeBron James, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, and Joel Embiid all played preseason highs in minutes and stayed on the court well into the second half of the game. Embiid bounced back from a tough outing against the Brooklyn Nets by scoring 27 points, grabbing eight rebounds, and adding five assists.
Finding Team Rhythm
Even with the star players logging heavy minutes against Celtics reserves, the group looked somewhat disjointed on the floor. Embiid rejected the idea that players need to change their games to fit in. He stated that everyone should simply do what they do best while the team offers support.
Jaylen Brown mentioned that spacing issues led to turnovers that the team must fix. LeBron James added that the squad is still working on rhythm and kinks after just a couple of weeks together. The Sixers will open the regular season against the New York Knicks on Tuesday.
