A Solid European Win
Atletico Madrid picked up a 2-0 victory against Manchester United in the Champions League on Tuesday. Diego Simeone said his side were worthy winners after taking the lead inside the first minute.
Pablo Barrios scored the opening goal right away. Simeone noted that his team knew they could hurt United on the wings by beating the high press.
Praise for Alvarez and Cardoso
Julian Alvarez played 71 minutes before leaving the pitch to mixed reactions from the home fans, as some supporters remember his wish to leave the club in the summer. Simeone defended the forward in his post match press conference, stating that Alvarez is getting closer to the player they want to see and that the team needs him.
Johnny Cardoso also put in a strong shift in the midfield, playing the full 90 minutes. Cardoso had a first half goal disallowed due to a Marcos Llorente handball, but Simeone highlighted that the midfielder is currently in a very good moment.
