Ohtani Ready for Playoff Opener

The Los Angeles Dodgers are preparing for Game 1 of the National League Division Series this Saturday at Dodger Stadium. The team has a five day break before the playoffs begin, which is giving superstar Shohei Ohtani much needed time to rest and work on his hitting.

Ohtani recently returned to play in the final five games of the regular season. This followed a two week period on the injured list due to persistent issues with his right biceps and left knee.

Finding His Rhythm

During his final five games of the regular season, Ohtani went 5 for 21 at the plate. He recorded one extra base hit, one walk, and eight strikeouts.

Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes shared a positive update on Ohtani's physical condition. Gomes said that everything is feeling great physically for the superstar. He added that Ohtani's swings were in a good place after his return, and the five day break is important for him to get more practice reps.

Despite dealing with injuries that affected his pitching and led to a batting slump, Ohtani still finished the regular season with a .275 batting average, an .889 OPS, and a team high 30 home runs.

Manager Backs Star to Deliver

Before going on the injured list, Ohtani struggled at the plate, batting just .198 with 34 strikeouts over 24 games. This slump took him out of the running for a fifth MVP award.

However, manager Dave Roberts is very confident about Ohtani's current fitness. Roberts stated that he expects to see the best version of Ohtani from the last two months. He noted that the star is as healthy as he has been in a long time.

To prepare for Saturday, Roberts wants Ohtani to take live at bats and practice against the Trajekt machine. Roberts said Ohtani did everything possible to manage his injuries while playing compromised, but now he expects him to feel as good as possible.
