Ready for the Challenge
Antoine Semenyo is prepared to step up and lead Manchester City's attack if Erling Haaland is ever unavailable. The 26-year-old winger has been identified by manager Enzo Maresca as the most obvious alternative to the Norwegian striker. City did not sign a direct replacement for Haaland during the summer transfer window.
Semenyo proved his goalscoring skills by scoring twice on Sunday. "If I need to, then I'll do it. I've no problem in doing that," the Ghana international said about playing as a backup striker. He added that finishing comes naturally to him, saying that once he is in front of the goal, he knows it does not move.
Eight-Goal Drama at City
City maintained their perfect start to the Premier League season with a 5-3 victory over Sunderland. It was a chaotic game with plenty of chances for both sides. Brian Brobbey scored a hat trick for the visitors, while Semenyo's double and a late goal from Haaland helped City secure the points. Enzo Fernández and Rayan Cherki were also on target for Maresca's side.
The match was full of dramatic moments. Haaland missed an open goal, Brobbey hit the crossbar, and Rúben Dias had to clear a ball off the line. Sunderland also felt they should have been awarded a penalty for a handball against Elliot Anderson. Semenyo admitted it was a physical fight and the team had to stick together to win.
Perfect Start Continues
Manchester City have now won seven consecutive matches in all competitions since their defeat to Arsenal in the Community Shield. This run has given them a three-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.
Despite the great start under their new manager, Semenyo insists the squad will not get complacent. He noted that they have only been together for about seven or eight weeks. He believes there is still room for improvement as they look to keep winning.
