Smith-Njigba Shines Against Chiefs

Jaxon Smith-Njigba had a huge night for Seattle, catching 150 receiving yards to help the Seahawks defeat the Kansas City Chiefs 20-3. He picked up 129 of those yards in the first half alone.

Smith-Njigba now leads the NFL with 867 receiving yards and eight touchdown catches this season. He is the first player in the Super Bowl era to reach at least 850 yards and eight touchdowns in his team's first seven games.

Quarterback Sam Darnold completed 20 of his 28 passes for 257 yards. He threw a first half touchdown pass, but he also threw an interception in the end zone right before halftime. Despite that mistake, Darnold avoided taking any sacks during the game.

Seattle Defense Dominates Kenneth Walker III

The Seahawks defense came into the game with a streak of 35 straight games without allowing a 100 yard rusher. That streak is now at 36 games after they stopped former teammate Kenneth Walker III.

Walker entered the game leading the league in rushing. Seattle kept him quiet, holding him to just 36 yards on 14 carries. He did not have a single run of 10 yards or more.

Kansas City finished with only 213 total yards. The Seahawks defense currently allows the second fewest points per game in the league. With San Francisco losing earlier in the day, Seattle snapped its two game losing streak and picked up ground in the standings.

Offense Falls Short For Kansas City

It was a frustrating game for Kansas City as they suffered their first loss of the season. Their offense never entered the red zone, getting no closer than the Seattle 27 yard line. Kicker Harrison Butker also missed a field goal.

Patrick Mahomes was under heavy pressure before halftime, getting pressured on eight of 15 dropbacks. That pressure resulted in an interception and just 37 passing yards in the first half.

The Chiefs were missing key offensive linemen Josh Simmons and Jaylon Moore, along with receivers Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton. Kansas City's remaining receivers combined for only six catches and 39 yards.
