Muñoz Stays in Seattle
The Seattle Mariners have made key roster decisions ahead of the market opening. Reliever Andrés Muñoz will stay with the team after Seattle exercised his 9 million dollar option on Thursday. The decision prevents the 27 year old right handed pitcher from becoming a free agent.
Muñoz originally agreed to a four year deal worth 7.5 million dollars in December 2021, which included three team options. He earned a 7 million dollar salary this past year under his first option. He earned All Star selections in both 2024 and 2025.
During his recent campaign, Muñoz posted a 5-6 record with 28 saves out of 38 opportunities. He recorded 89 strikeouts across 57 1/3 innings, though he posted a career worst 4.24 ERA. Seattle also holds a 10 million dollar option on him for 2028, which can rise by 250,000 dollars at different targets for games finished.
Robles and Miller Contract Decisions
Seattle chose a different path for outfielder Victor Robles. The club declined his 9 million dollar option, making the 29 year old eligible for free agency. Robles receives a 500,000 dollar buyout to complete his two year contract worth 9.75 million dollars.
Robles struggled with injuries during the year. He was sidelined between April 6 and May 22 because of a right pectoral muscle strain. A dislocated left shoulder also limited him to 32 games in 2025. Overall, he played 65 games, batting .256 with no home runs, nine RBI, and 10 stolen bases.
Right handed pitcher Bryce Miller also saw his option turned down. The Mariners declined a 6,075,000 dollar option on the 28 year old. He gets a 15,000 dollar buyout from a one year deal that guaranteed 2,452,500 dollars. Miller stays under club control and remains eligible for salary arbitration.
Pitching Numbers and Free Agents
Miller suffered a strained left oblique earlier in the year, which delayed his Mariners season debut until May 13. He finished the year with a 4-10 record and a 4.17 ERA over 21 starts and one appearance out of the bullpen.
In addition to the option decisions, four other Seattle players officially entered free agency on Thursday. Outfielders Randy Arozarena and Taylor Ward hit the open market. Shortstop J.P. Crawford and left handed pitcher Hoby Milner also became free agents.
