Broncos Support Nix After Win

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton gave quarterback Bo Nix a strong vote of confidence following Sunday's 30-16 victory over the Arizona Cardinals in Glendale. Payton made it clear after the game that the team still fully believes in their quarterback, stating that Nix is their guy.

Nix helped lead Denver to victory with 222 passing yards, one touchdown pass, and 73 rushing yards. The biggest moment of his day arrived on a 62 yard touchdown run just before halftime.

Career Run Answers Ankle Questions

The 62 yard run came in the second quarter when the game was tied at 6-6. Denver faced a second and seven from their own 38 yard line. Nix dropped back on a called pass play, found room after defenders moved away, and sprinted for the longest run of his career.

Nix had two surgeries on his right ankle since January after breaking it in a playoff win against the Buffalo Bills. Entering Sunday, he had only 22 rushing attempts this season compared to 175 over his previous two years. That led to questions about whether he wanted to run less, but Nix remained firm that his ankle was fine. After the game, he asked if critics believed him now.

Statistics And Teammate Praise

Nix faced heavy criticism coming into Sunday. He entered the game ranked 30th in completions over expectation at minus 4.0 percent, 31st in QBR at 38.2, 32nd in yards per attempt at 5.6, and 32nd in air yards per attempt at 5.4. His success rate of 36.1 percent ranked 36th out of 37 quarterbacks with at least 50 dropbacks.

His teammates were happy to see him break free on the ground. Tackle Garett Bolles praised Nix, saying that when running down the sideline he is like a freaking gazelle. Wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. added that he was surprised by how quickly Nix sprinted past defenders.

Offense Delivers Big Plays

The Broncos offense produced several major plays beyond the long run. Nix hit running back RJ Harvey on a 52 yard catch and run screen for a touchdown in the third quarter. He also connected with Mims on a 47 yard pass to set up another score, while completing passes of 20 yards to Courtland Sutton and 27 yards to Jaylen Waddle.

Denver had entered the game near the bottom of the league with only 13 plays of 20 yards or more across six games. They added four more passing plays of that distance on Sunday. The win brought Denver to a 6-2 record on the season.
