Injury updates before kickoff
The Seattle Seahawks will be without starting linebacker Drake Thomas and running back Zach Charbonnet for their Thursday night game against the Denver Broncos. Thomas injured his ankle in the recent loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He finished that match, but missed practice all week.
Coach Mike Macdonald confirmed that Tyrice Knight will start at weakside linebacker in place of Thomas. Knight made nine starts as a rookie and four last year, giving the team confidence in his ability to fill the gap.
Charbonnet is still working his way back from February ACL surgery. Macdonald noted that the running back is not playing in this game, and the team has until next Thursday to activate him off the physically unable to perform list.
Other team news
Wide receiver Jaxon Smith Njigba and defensive tackle Leonard Williams have no game designations, meaning they are ready to play. Both dealt with ankle injuries earlier in the week, but Williams practiced and Smith Njigba was a full participant by Wednesday.
With Charbonnet unavailable and rookie Jadarian Price on injured reserve, Emanuel Wilson and George Holani will continue to lead Seattle's backfield. Velus Jones Jr is the third running back. Backup linebacker and special teamer Chazz Surratt is also out with an ankle injury.
Meanwhile, the Broncos will be missing All Pro cornerback Patrick Surtain II and safety Talanoa Hufanga due to ankle issues. Cornerback Riley Moss is questionable with a rib injury.
