Barkley Set To Play
Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley appears ready to play Sunday night against the Washington Commanders. He missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday before participating in a limited capacity on Friday. Despite this limited practice schedule, he carries no injury designation into the game.
Barkley dealt with a hamstring injury earlier in the season. During Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys, his back locked up during Monday night's game and forced him to miss part of the second half. Even with that issue, he played nine snaps, handled the ball every time he was on the field, and gained 71 yards with a touchdown.
Player Mindset And Backfield Depth
Speaking after Friday's practice, Barkley expressed his determination to take the field. He noted that he wants to avoid looking back with regret.
"I would hope so, I believe I'll be able to," Barkley said when asked about playing against Washington. He added that he wants to keep recovering and being smart, but intends to play whenever he has the opportunity.
With several running backs currently on injured reserve, the team has limited backfield depth available for the contest.
Other Injury Updates
While Barkley is ready, Philadelphia will miss several other players as they attempt to end a five-game slide. The team will be without top receivers DeVonta Smith due to a hamstring issue and Dontayvion Wicks due to an ankle injury.
Additionally, linebacker Jihaad Campbell, cornerback Jonathan Jones, and returner Britain Covey have all been ruled out. On the positive side, Nolan Smith does not have an injury designation after missing the previous game with a concussion.
