Barkley Plays Through Pain

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley insists his hamstring feels great after returning to action in a 38-21 loss against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night.

Barkley came into the match listed as questionable after missing the previous two weeks with a hamstring problem. The Eagles tried to manage his workload, but a back injury limited his time on the field even further as the night went on.

Record Efficiency On Limited Snaps

Despite his physical struggles, Barkley made an immediate impact whenever he lined up. He played nine offensive snaps in total and touched the ball on every single one. That made him the first NFL starter in the last 20 seasons to get a touch on every snap while playing at least nine plays.

In those nine touches, Barkley produced seven carries for 62 yards and one touchdown, along with two catches for nine yards. His night came to an early end when he took his final snap in the third quarter.

Managing Multiple Health Concerns

The running back tweaked his back during a run of 29 yards in the first quarter, and the issue grew worse as the game moved forward. He spent time in the medical tent, stretched on the bench, and rode an exercise bike on the sideline after scoring an eight yard touchdown.

Head coach Nick Sirianni praised the runner for trying to fight through the pain. Sirianni explained that player health comes first, but Barkley wanted to be out there for his team because of his toughness. Barkley noted that he loves the game and feels players must push their bodies when possible, adding that it is hard not being able to perform when trying to lead the group.

Growing Injury List For Philadelphia

Barkley does not believe his back issue will keep him out of upcoming games, though he is leaving the final call to the medical staff.

Philadelphia faces a tough situation in the backfield right now. Will Shipley has a foot injury, Tank Bigsby has an abdomen issue, and Carson Steele is dealing with a shoulder problem, with all three currently on injured reserve. Dameon Pierce also left the match in the fourth quarter with an undisclosed injury, leaving Elijah Mitchell to handle running duties after coming up from the practice squad.
