Trade Speculation Cleared Up
Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley has confirmed he received assurances from the front office that he will remain with the team beyond the Nov. 10 trade deadline.
The message came following a 27-10 loss to the Washington Commanders in Landover. Speculation about his future had been circulating on social media, but the player stated that he really did not read too much into it.
Barkley explained that the support from leadership meant a lot to him. He expressed a strong desire to stay with the squad and help turn their season around.
Eagles Face Growing Pressure
The Eagles are currently struggling on the field. They have dropped six straight games and now sit at two wins and six losses on the year.
Philadelphia has just one game left before the upcoming trade deadline. That match will take place at home against the NFC East leading New York Giants.
General manager Howie Roseman has been one of the most active executives when making trades. He already completed a deal in October, sending offensive lineman Cam Jurgens and a 2027 seventh round pick to the Baltimore Ravens. In exchange, the team received a 2027 fifth round pick and a 2028 second round pick. As losses continue to pile up, questions have grown over whether the club will trade away more players for draft picks.
Barkley Focused on Leading the Team
Despite the team struggles, Barkley remains committed to the franchise. He stated that he has nothing but respect for the organisation top to bottom and believes they do things the right way.
He added that it is an honour and a privilege every single time he gets to play for the team and put on the midnight green.
Barkley noted that his mindset has remained focused on solving their current issues. He feels he is the type of player and leader who can help the group get out of this slump and wants to be one of the reasons they fix it.
Managing Ongoing Injuries
Barkley has been dealing with both hamstring and back injuries. As a result, he was placed on a pitch count during the game against the Commanders.
He played in just 22 out of a possible 68 plays on Sunday night. Even with the limited snaps, he managed to record 14 touches for 54 yards and scored a touchdown.
