Sangare targets top two finish
Mamadou Sangare wants Brentford to aim high this season. The midfielder believes the squad can cause a big surprise and push for a top two finish in the Premier League.
Brentford sit fourth in the table after six matches. They are five points behind second place Arsenal and remain undefeated. Strong wins over Tottenham and Chelsea have helped them build great momentum.
"Why can't we also reach the top four, or the top two?" Sangare said in a recent interview. "Why can't we cause a real surprise? Because we're a good team in the league. We have a very good team with very good players, with a great coach as well."
Smart scouting and steady growth
Brentford reached the Premier League for the first time in 2021. They have established themselves in the top flight by relying on an excellent scouting system that finds talent missed by other teams.
Former manager Thomas Frank left last season, but the team still finished ninth. They barely missed out on playing in Europe for the first time in their history.
Sangare joined from Lens this summer for a club record fee. The 24 year old midfielder has made an instant impact with his tough tackling style.
Choosing growth over bigger clubs
Many top European clubs wanted the deep lying midfielder this summer. Sangare turned down other offers because he believed Brentford offered the best environment to improve.
"There were a lot of clubs," Sangare explained. "For me, the most important thing was to know where I could progress. And Brentford was the best place for my development."
He noted that working under a manager who genuinely wanted him made his final decision clear.
