Big Suspension and Fine for 49ers Owner

The NFL has suspended San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York for six games. The league also handed him a 500,000 dollar fine on Friday. This decision comes after York violated the NFL's personal conduct policy.

York was arrested in Ohio back in August. Police arrested him on suspicion of engaging in prostitution. He eventually pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor charges. York has been the team's CEO since 2008 and became the majority owner of the franchise in 2024.

Details of the Arrest and Plea

According to court records, York responded to an undercover advertisement on a known prostitution website. He used a pseudonym and arranged to have sexual activity with a female in exchange for 140 dollars.

As part of his no contest plea, York paid 1,150 dollars in fines. He was sentenced to one day in jail for each charge, but with one day already considered to be served.

York did not attend the first three games of the season while the NFL conducted its investigation. He is credited those games toward his suspension. This means he will be allowed to rejoin the team on October 20. This date is the day after the 49ers face the Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football.

York released a statement about the situation. He said that he accepted the NFL's decision and apologized to his family and the team. He stated, "This was an inexcusable mistake and I take full responsibility. What I did does not reflect my values or the man I strive to be for my family."
