The San Francisco 49ers are dealing with a massive injury list in 2026, yet they remain undefeated at 4-0 as they head into a matchup with the Seattle Seahawks.

An Injury-Plagued Start to the Season

The San Francisco 49ers are once again on pace to be among the most injured teams in the NFL. Four weeks into the season, the Niners have the most games missed by players due to injury at 75, according to CBS Sports. They also have the ninth-most annual salary value on their injured reserve, physically unable to perform list, and non-football injury list. That does not even account for stars like defensive end Nick Bosa and fullback Kyle Juszczyk, who are both injured but not on a reserve list.

Despite this reality, the Niners have showed they are well equipped to handle a lengthy injury list. They are currently 4-0 with 16 players on injured reserve and two more on the physically unable to perform list. Linebacker Fred Warner noted that injuries are part of football, stating that it is a violent game and things are going to happen.

Looking at the Numbers and Recovery Timelines

On a scale of 1-10, the panic level for the 49ers regarding their injuries sits at a 7. The good news is that with the notable exceptions of Collins, Pearsall, and tight end Jake Tonges, the rest of the 22 injured players should return at some point in 2026. San Francisco expects some players, such as Bosa and Juszczyk, to return in October. Others might not be back until late November or early December if their recoveries go as planned.

Injuries have hit the team especially hard at receiver and on the defensive line. In the defensive line group, the only players available to play from the initial 53-man roster are Osa Odighizuwa, Gracen Halton, Romello Height, and Keion White. Coach Kyle Shanahan mentioned that having so many new practice squad players and street free agents step up is a new situation for him, but he has been real happy with how they are performing.
