Injury Blow for New Orleans
The New Orleans Saints suffered a major injury blow during their Sunday game against the Baltimore Ravens. Left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. was forced to leave the game in the fourth quarter after hurting his ankle.
The injury happened on a third and 19 play. Quarterback Tyler Shough was sacked on the play, and Banks landed awkwardly on his ankle. The young lineman immediately grabbed his left ankle and remained down on the turf.
Carted Off the Field
Medical staff rushed to attend to Banks on the field. He was unable to get up or walk off under his own power. A cart was brought onto the field to carry him off to the locker room.
The Saints quickly ruled him out for the rest of the game against the Ravens. It is a worrying sight for the team as they assess the damage to their starting left tackle.
Richards Steps In
Banks has been a highly reliable player for New Orleans. The 22 year old was selected as the ninth overall pick of the 2025 draft. He proved his durability last season by starting all 17 games at left tackle for the Saints.
Veteran lineman Asim Richards took over at left tackle on the next offensive series. Richards came to the Saints during the 2025 preseason.
The Dallas Cowboys traded Richards and a 2028 seventh round pick to the Saints. In exchange, New Orleans sent a 2028 sixth round pick to Dallas. Richards must now step up and fill the void left by the injured Banks.
