Preseason blow for Sacramento

The Sacramento Kings suffered a major setback during their preseason game at the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night. Second-year center Maxime Raynaud went down with an apparent serious right knee injury late in the first half.

The incident happened when Raynaud was setting a screen for rookie guard Darius Acuff Jr. as Golden State player Stephen Curry defended. Bodies collided, and Raynaud took hard contact to the outside of his right knee. He yelled in pain and dropped straight to the floor.

Immediate concern on the floor

Everyone knew quickly that the situation was serious. Sacramento coach Doug Christie called a timeout and walked out to the court to check on Raynaud, who covered his face with his hands.

Team trainers called for a wheelchair to take Raynaud to the locker room. Team officials officially ruled him out with a right knee injury early in the third quarter.

Team support and bright past

Raynaud spent halftime undergoing tests at Chase Center. Kings general manager Scott Perry and team owner Vivek Ranadive visited him outside the locker room, and Ranadive gave the player a hug.

Sources inside the team confirmed a growing fear that they lost their young center for the foreseeable future. Raynaud made the All-Rookie second team last season after averaging 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in 74 games after being drafted 42nd overall.
