Wilson in the Running
Former Super Bowl champion quarterback Russell Wilson interviewed on Tuesday for the head coaching job at NC State. Wilson is thirty eight years old and joins Philip Rivers as former NC State and NFL quarterbacks who are now prominent candidates for the Wolfpack job.
NC State has been searching for a new leader since firing Dave Doeren as head coach on October twenty fourth.
College and Pro Career
Wilson played college football at NC State from 2008 to 2010 before transferring to Wisconsin in 2011. The Seattle Seahawks drafted him in the third round of the 2012 NFL draft.
He went on to play fourteen seasons in the NFL, leading Seattle to their first Super Bowl championship in the 2013 season. He earned ten Pro Bowl selections before announcing in June that he was retiring from the NFL to work as an analyst with CBS Sports.
Competing Candidates
Philip Rivers is another major candidate for the NC State position. Rivers played at NC State from 2000 to 2003 and is currently in his sixth season as coach at St. Michael Catholic High School in Fairhope, Alabama.
Rivers has never coached at the college level, but he led his high school team to the state playoff semifinals in the previous two seasons. The forty four year old has told NC State that he wants to finish the current high school season before taking on any new roles.
