San Siro Upset

AC Milan suffered a surprise 2-0 home defeat against Hungarian side Ferencvaros on Thursday in the Europa League. The loss leaves the Italian giants in 28th place in the league phase with just three points from four games.

The defeat came despite Milan entering the match after a victory over Serie A rivals Inter Milan on Saturday. Coach Ruben Amorim made six changes to his starting lineup for the European fixture, but his side put in a lackluster performance at San Siro.

Second Half Collapse

After a first half where the visitors put Milan under pressure, Amorim made a triple substitution at halftime. United States star Christian Pulisic was among the players brought on to turn things around.

Ferencvaros struck twice in a span of 14 minutes early in the second half. Forward Lenny Joseph scored the opening goal after capitalizing on an error by backup goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani. Joseph then added his second on a fast counter attack.

The visitors held onto their lead even after substitute Bamidele Yusuf received a straight red card in the 77th minute. Milan failed to take advantage of the extra man.

Amorim Takes Blame

Speaking after the match, Amorim held nothing back when assessing his team. He stated that the players were not mentally prepared and added that there were no excuses for the performance.

The former Manchester United manager questioned his own preparation as well. He admitted that he might have done something wrong in the days leading up to the fixture.

Amorim noted that while Milan have lost only once in 10 Serie A games, they are struggling in Europe. He said the opposition was better technically, tactically, and mentally, adding that his team was not prepared to play professional football.
