The explosive interview
Manchester United are facing fresh internal turmoil after defender Lisandro Martinez launched a scathing attack on the club hierarchy. Following a 2-0 defeat by Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, Martinez accused the club of lacking ambition. He also questioned the summer recruitment strategy led by director of football Jason Wilcox.
The Argentine defender spoke out during the worst start to a league season for the club since 1986. The comments quickly drew sharp criticism from former players who questioned the timing and target of the remarks.
Legendary pundits react
Former club captain Roy Keane did not hold back when discussing the situation. He branded the club a circus and described the environment at Old Trafford as chaotic from top to bottom. Keane added that the team is clearly not united.
Fellow pundit Gary Neville felt the comments amounted to a direct attack on team-mates. Neville suggested that senior players like Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire would be extremely angry because the remarks implied current squad members are not good enough. Both pundits also questioned Martinez and his own recent performances on the pitch.
