Injury scare for Acuña

The Atlanta Braves faced a major scare on Tuesday night when star outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. had to leave the game against the Cincinnati Reds. During the third inning, Acuña fouled a ball directly off his left leg. The incident happened on a three and one pitch from Reds pitcher Brandon Williamson.

Acuña was in clear pain after the swing. The ball hit his left shin, just below his knee and right above his protective guard. He dropped to the dirt, grimaced, and tried to walk it off before falling to his knees. After being checked by the trainer and manager Walt Weiss, he walked slowly to the clubhouse.

Fortunately, the initial news is positive. X-rays on his leg came back negative. The Braves have listed him as day to day with a contusion, which is a relief for fans and bettors alike.

A blow before the playoffs

This injury comes at a very bad time for Atlanta. The playoffs are just one week away. The Braves have already clinched their seventh NL East title in the past nine years and are expected to host a best of three wild card series.

Acuña has been in incredible form lately. The 2023 NL MVP has hit seven home runs in his last 18 games, including a grand slam against the Astros last weekend. For the season, he is batting .259 with 20 home runs, 55 RBIs, and 20 stolen bases.

When Acuña left Tuesday's game, Brewer Hicklen had to take over his spot in right field and as the leadoff hitter. Atlanta will hope their star hitter can make a quick recovery.
