Controversy in the Derby

Manchester City secured a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in a derby filled with controversial decisions. The match turned dramatic when Phil Foden was sent off for City after reacting to a kick from Bruno Fernandes.

Despite playing with ten men, City managed to find the net. Erling Haaland scored the winning goal on the hour mark. The goal was initially ruled out for offside, but VAR stepped in to overturn the decision.

Richards Questions VAR Decisions

Former defender Micah Richards was unhappy with the officiating. He described the match as a bad day for referees and VAR. Richards argued that the officials got both major decisions wrong.

He believed Foden should not have been sent off after 23 minutes. He also argued that Haaland's goal should have been disallowed because Enzo Fernandez was challenging from an offside position.

Richards said that any slight movement from an offside player affects a defender. However, he praised City's fight and spirit to play for so long with ten men.

The Premier League Match Centre explained that VAR recommended the goal because Haaland was onside and Fernandez did not play the ball. Meanwhile, Enzo Maresca felt Bruno Fernandes should have also received a red card.

City Show Superior Street Smarts

Roy Keane pointed out that City showed more maturity during the match. He noted that City were smarter and more streetwise than United.

According to Keane, United players might have started overthinking the game once City went down to ten men. He urged them to keep things simple.

Lisandro Martinez and Michael Carrick both expressed anger at the decision to allow Haaland's winning goal, calling it an injustice.
