Madrid Wins at Camp Nou
Barcelona saw their perfect start to the LaLiga season come to an end on Sunday at Spotify Camp Nou. Real Madrid secured a 2-1 victory in the Clásico, reducing the gap at the top of the table. Kylian Mbappe scored twice for the visitors, including an 87th-minute winner.
Mbappe opened the scoring in the first half following a poor clearance from Gerard Martín. Raphinha equalized for Barcelona after the break with his 15th goal of the campaign. However, Madrid caught Barcelona on a late counterattack when Eduardo Camavinga set up Mbappe to seal the points.
Pedri Points to Mistakes
Barcelona midfielder Pedri admitted his team did not play well and paid the price for a sluggish performance. He spoke to reporters after the match about the sloppy mistakes that cost them the game.
Pedri stated that they were not themselves in the first half and lost the ball stupidly. He added that they failed to defend properly during the transition that led to the winning goal.
Flick Blames Fatigue and Injuries
The defeat capped a miserable week for Hansi Flick and his squad. They also suffered a 4-2 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, ending a run of 11 consecutive victories in all competitions.
Flick refused to call the results a reality check. Instead, he pointed to tiredness and a mounting defensive injury list as the main reasons for the losses. Barcelona are still top of the table and will host Alavés next Saturday.
