Dramatic Finish in St. Petersburg

The Tampa Bay Rays avoided elimination in the World Series with a 4-3 win against the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night. The game went to 12 innings before Tampa Bay completed a late comeback to keep their season alive.

Milwaukee were close to sweeping the series and claiming their first title when Cooper Pratt hit a tiebreaking home run off Ian Seymour in the top of the 12th inning. That gave the Brewers a late lead. However, the Rays responded in the bottom half of the inning to force Game 5.

Late Rally Turnaround

The comeback started when Milwaukee third baseman Joey Ortiz made a throwing error on a leadoff grounder from Junior Caminero against pitcher Antonio Senzatela. Liam Hicks then singled off Shane Drohan, who was making his first appearance since Oct. 15.

Jonny DeLuca followed with a single to center field. That allowed pinch runner Cedric Mullins to score and tie the game at 3-3. Chandler Simpson then singled to load the bases.

Williamson Delivers the Winning Hit

Facing a bases loaded situation, Milwaukee put five players in the infield. Pinch hitter Ben Williamson stepped up for Tampa Bay. He had been 1 for 15 in the postseason before this turn at bat.

Williamson hit a chopper over first baseman Jake Bauers and into right field to bring home the winning run. The result leaves both teams preparing for Game 5 on Wednesday night at Tropicana Field, as both franchises continue searching for their first World Series trophy.

Historical Odds Facing Tampa Bay

Tampa Bay became just the fifth team out of 26 to trail 3-0 in a World Series and win Game 4. The previous four teams that did this all lost Game 5.

Across all best of seven postseason matchups in baseball history, 43 teams have fallen behind 3-0. Only one ever came back to win the series, which was the Boston Red Sox against the New York Yankees in the 2004 American League Championship Series.
