Defensive errors cost New York
The Tampa Bay Rays took advantage of four errors by the New York Yankees to win Game 2 on Monday night and take a 2-0 lead in their ALDS. Richie Palacios hit a two-run single in a four-run fifth inning as the Rays beat Cam Schlittler and the Yankees 5-2 in St. Petersburg.
Ben Rice hit a pair of homers for the Yankees, who are on the verge of elimination. The team has scored just two runs in two games with three-time AL MVP Aaron Judge out of the lineup due to a calf injury.
Rays close to series win
The small-ball Rays chased Schlittler in the fifth inning, aided by New York defensive miscues. Jonathan Aranda lined a single to start the frame and Junior Caminero ripped a double. Liam Hicks hit a bouncer that scored Aranda, and Chandler Simpson later reached after a fielding error.
Palacios followed with a hard single to center that increased the Tampa Bay lead to 5-1. Freddy Peralta allowed one run in 4.2 innings, and bullpen pitchers held on to secure the win. Game 3 of the best-of-five playoff is Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium.
