Double Injury Blow for Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens suffered a massive setback in their season opener against the Colts, losing wide receivers Zay Flowers and Ja'Kobi Lane to injuries. The losses leave the team extremely thin at the position, as they are now without their number one and number three options on the depth chart.
Flowers went down with a hamstring injury and was ruled out of the game. Before leaving, he was putting on a brilliant performance. He had caught five passes for 150 yards and a touchdown.
How the Injuries Happened
Flowers aggravated a left hamstring injury with about five and a half minutes left in the first half. He grabbed his hamstring after being tackled by Sauce Gardner following a 12 yard reception. The star receiver had recently missed two weeks of practice with a hamstring issue, but he returned to practice last week and had no injury designation before Sunday. This comes just a month after Flowers signed a massive four year, $140 million contract extension.
Meanwhile, rookie Ja'Kobi Lane hurt his wrist in the first half of his NFL debut. It is still unknown exactly when the injury occurred. Lane managed just one catch for 11 yards before he was forced to leave the game.
Thin Receiver Depth
With Flowers and Lane sidelined, Baltimore had to rely on a very short list of healthy wide receivers. Only Rashod Bateman, LaJohntay Wester, and Chris Moore were left active. Wester is primarily a punt returner, while Moore was brought up from the practice squad for the game.
The Ravens also had two inactive wide receivers for the match. Rookie fourth round pick Elijah Sarratt and Devontez Walker, who has been recovering from a groin injury, were both unavailable.
